"Where There's a Will" is Mahesh Dattani's award winning & world acclaimed play where traditional family values
meet the seven deadly sins. The play has several interesting aspects, one of them is portrayed by the Women.
In the traditional Indian society women, be it a daughter-in-law, a wife or a mistress, are dependent on men, and
this play shows what happens when they are pushed to the edge. The other aspect is about a father who is overpowering
not only on his wife, but also on all the people he comes across including his son. Its about father's will to have
everything run his way and son's struggle to define himself as an individual, separate from his successful father.
One other aspect that is interesting is the way it contrasts how people can effect change or use power, for example,
by the way the father demands authority out of his son & daughter-in-law, which is contrasted by the manners in which
the mistress garners support.
This play was made possible with collaboration with Association for India's Development, Boise Chapter.
